PROGRAMME 2026

Our programme is prepared 3 months in advance so is subject to additions and changes. Watch for updates here for more details. Events headed FYI (FOR YOUR INFORMATION) have been recommended by an EFOG member but no-one is formally co-ordinating the activity. If interested you will need to make your own arrangements and/or chat with others about doing something together.

An asterisk * marks  an event which needs to be booked in advance. Please book asap. Those coming up in in future months are listed at the bottom of this page.

If any member wishes to lead (or suggest) an event on a free date, please contact Peter or Maz first to check that the date is still free. Members can find contact details for those organising events on their paper programme and will also be sent updates via EFOG member e-mails.

The majority of events are open to non-members who may be interested in joining EFOG. To find out if our programme suits you, you are welcome to come along for a free trial period. The annual fee is £35. This helps us to cover the cost of hiring the hall, where we meet almost every Thursdays of the year at 8.00 p.m.

If you would like more information please use the contact facility on this website or contact Peter (01992 573638 or 07960 205921) or Ken (020 8524 3960). To find out if our programme suits you, you are welcome to come along for a free trial period.

PAST MONTHS

JANUARY

Thursday 1st New Year’s Day WALK to Connaught Water and back. Meet: Loughton Station, to leave at 11am. Bring: Lunch and Drink. Parviz

Thursday 8th BRING & BUY AUCTION. Ian

Saturday 10th WALK. A 3 mile walk around Abridge... As it's impossible to get there by public transport cars will be needed. Anyone needing a lift if they can meet at the Eagle pub car park so we're ready to leave at 11am and anyone going directly to Abridge you need to find your way to New Farm Drive and park there somewhere... Well be meeting where the road goes from tarmac to gravel at around 11.30am. Ian

Tuesday 13th 10 PIN BOWLING. Brian

Thursday 15th PROGRAMME PLANNING . We need more pre-planning please. Contact Jill. S. or Peter G. with your ideas.

Saturday 17th WALK. Hanningfield Reservoir. Meet at Eagle Lane, Snaresbrook at 10.20am, ready to leave at 10.30am. The best route for the journey to Hanningfield Reservoir is probably M11, M25, A12.

The better cafe is at the Waterside Park - CM3 8HX, so we'll park in the car park near that and re-assemble in the cafe at roughly 11.15am.

The full circular walk is about 2.5 miles, but anyone who wants could either stay near/in the cafe or do a shorter walk to one of the hides and back. Currently the forecast looks good, and the paths are reasonable through the woodland with not too much mud. The plan is to finish back at the cafe for lunch, but you may wish to bring sandwiches. Richard

Thursday 22nd NEW YEAR’S PARTY. Bring food and drink. All

Saturday 24th WALK. Sue. S. Cancelled

Thursday 29th AGM. Trevor

Saturday 31st Riverside WALK, starting from Lewisham Station at 11.15. Meet at the exit from the DLR platforms. Alternatively, meet at Stratford Station on platform 4 at 10.30 to catch the DLR to Lewisham.

The walk is along three of South East London's little-known rivers: the Quaggy (possibly the best name ever for a river), the Ravensbourne, and the Pool. The walk will be about 4 to 5 miles long, ending at either Lower Sydenham Station (for the shorter walk) or New Beckenham Station for the full walk. We can catch the train back to Lewisham from either of them.

The walk is mainly on footpaths and is mostly level, although there are a few small inclines.  Bring something to drink, and a packed lunch, and weather-appropriate clothing, although the weather will hopefully be fab! Highlights include Lewisham Shopping Centre, the largest police station in Europe, and the Lewisham Elm. Just so you're aware,  the Central Line isn't working east of Bethnal Green on Saturday, so it's either replacement buses or other lines.  Being taken surprise by the Central Line closure is not going to be a valid excuse for any lateness!. Trevor
